Signify is Porcupine Tree's fourth studio album and was released in September 1996. It was the first Porcupine Tree album that frontman Steven Wilson recorded with the band from the beginning; the previous albums were essentially solo projects with occasional help from other musicians.
Signify was a bit strange in the way it was recorded, because although it is a band album, for physical reasons we could never all be in the same room at the same time. With the exception of one track, "Intermediate Jesus," which was recorded outside, I tended to strip the tracks down to a pretty high level and they just replaced the parts I had played on the synths for the actual tracks. So there wasn't much input from the other guys, said frontman Steven Wilson.
