The successful progressive metal band Dream Theater released their debut studio album When Dream and Day Unite in 1989. With Charlie Dominici on vocals they took their first step in becoming one of the best known artists in the progressive metal scene. It's their shortest release to date, but one in which you can hear what later became the signature of the band. The band was inspired by the '70s and '80s progrock, which you can hear in their shreddy riffs and jazzy signatures. As a milestone in the evolution of progressive metal it's an album full of atmospheric keyboard sounds, epic vocals and some powerful riffs. Charlie Dominici's voice can be compared to the voice of Geddy Lee and even in their melodies you'll hear some structures from Rush.
Dream Theater is one of the most successful artists in the progressive metal scene. After releasing their top selling album Images and Words (1992) they became known to a wider public. To date they has sold over 13 million records worldwide.
