"Ellengæst" has the difficult task of following up 2018's profound and moving "Great Escape. However, this new release makes no attempt to mate with or succeed its predecessor. Circumstances largely prevented it from doing so.
On the day track tracking for 'Ellengæst' began, Crippled Black Phoenix was without a male lead singer and keyboardist. While events of a similar nature would spell doom for most bands, CBP leader Justin Greaves seized it as an opportunity to call on his deep network of musician friends.
Before he knew it, several prominent guest vocalists had been laid down, ready and able to lend their considerable talents to: Vincent Cavanagh of Anathema, Kristian "Gaahl" Espedal of Gaahls Wyrd, Coliseum/Fotocrime/one-time Crippled Black Phoenix touring bassist Ryan Patterson, emerging British solo artist Suzie Stapleton and Jonathan Hultén of Tribulation."
